    Although there are remains of ancient cultures such the Iberian or Roman it is without doubt the Moslem culture that is most rooted in the town and the town’s name, a derivation of “Banu-Issa”, and the names of some of the farming hamlets that have survived throughout the centuries.

  • BENISSA BEACHES

    PLAYA LA FUSTERA: beach of fine natural sand dominated by the majestic meadows of Posidonia oceanica (sea-grass) that reign over the seabed.

    CALA PINETS: small rock and sand cove from which you can take a short walk to the "Mar Morta" i"Roques Negres" (Dead Sea & Black Rocks).

    PLATGETA DE L´ADVOCAT: existence of a jetty and a small esplanade where one can take a peaceful stroll.

    CALA DE LA LLOBELLA: This is a pebble beach very suitable for the practice of sub-aquatic sports.

    CALA BALADRAR:  is a lovely gate to the Mediterranean that stands out for the brightness typical on these latitudes, with pine trees leaning out towards the blue sea inviting the visitor to follow this pleasant aquatic route.

    Les Basetes Dive Centre has been established for over 20 years and is one of the longest running dive centres in the Costa Blanca area. We are based in the beautiful harbour of Benissa (Club Nautico Les Basetes) on the coastal road between Calpe and Moraira.

    We offer a first class range of diving around the Peñon de Ifach, just 5 minutes from the dive centre, we are also the only dive centre offering daily dives from Benidorm to Javea, covering over 40 km of coastline.

    CALA EL COLLAO O RACÓ DEL CORB: located in a unique natural setting, this beach located south of Calpe is only accessible by sea. It is especially recommended for diving and fishing.

    PLAYA CANTAL ROIG: A small, calm beach located next to the fishing port and the Peñón de Ifach.

  • CULTURE IN CALPE

    In Calpe you can see remnants of different civilizations while exploring its typical seaside streets decorated with frescoes. Tradition is combined with creativity in a unique environment where monuments and museums hold great treasures to be discovered.

    You will find the monuments scattered throughout the municipal area, such as the hermitage of San Juan, the "Baños de la Reina", the "Villa de Ifach", etc.

  • ALTEA BEACHES

    The Bay of Altea has more than 8 km of coastline made up of small coves, stretches of flat beaches and cliffs. Some of these are:

    LA OLLA: more than one kilometre of sand, boulders and rocks with clean water for swimming. The little islands opposite the beach are called  “ L'Illeta” and “ L'Illot”.

    CAP NEGRET: an exposed, two-kilometre semi-urban beach set against the backdrop of the Sierra Bernia. It is a gravel beach with clean water.

    EL MASCARAT: This stony beach has clean water and there are some great spots for scuba driving.

    LA RODA: With a blue flag, this exposed beach comprises gravel and stones. It has children's play equipment. It is one of the liveliest in Altea and the closest to the town centre.

    CAP BLANCH: This is a spacious, rustic beach with fine gravel and boulders.

  • A STROLL THROUGH ALTEA

    Anyone lucky enough to visit Altea will find discover endless nooks and crannies to enjoy. Why not start in the old town, a charming collection of steep, narrow streets, some of them cobbled, lined with interesting craft shops and some rather excellent dining options. Finish your walk in the Plaza de la Iglesia (Church Square) a pulsating cultural centre, brimming with entertainment in summertime.

    The lower part of town is also fun with its seafront promenade and lively shopping area. This is where you'll find the beautiful beaches with their smooth polished stones, and a long line-up of tempting activities like swimming, fishing, sailing, kayak, etc.

    Would you rather be in the heart of nature? Head for the Sierra Bernia for a hike, take a trip through Altea la Vella, or walk through the Sierra Helada Nature Park (in Alfaz del Pí). Scuba diving is also a great option with fantastic sights waiting for you on the seabed in the Bay of Altea, lapped by the Mediterranean Sea. All this is just a tiny sample of what you'll find in Altea and its surrounding area. Plan something that takes your fancy or just go with the flow!

  • CULTURE IN ALTEA

    There are several public and private art galleries in Altea. The town also house the Palau Altea, a one-thousand-seat auditorium that belongs to the Spanish Theatre Network and stages a very attractive line-up of drama, dance, music, exhibitions and congresses. International and national stars like Rostropovich, Lluís Llach, Julio Iglesias, José Carreras and Joan Manuel Serrat have all performed here. The cultural scene also features programmes of open air concerts such as "Música a Boqueta Nit", "Nits al so de l'aigua" and popular events like the "Chapel Route", the "Handicraft Exhibition", las Balconadas, the Small Format Trade Fair, the Library, the Music School, the Altea Philharmonic, the Music and Dance School, the School of Fine Arts and the Fundación Schlotter.

    There are year-round, top-level exhibitions, congresses, concerts, cinema festivals and drama performances. Altea certainly has some very interesting heritage and options, an irresistible buzz and some fascinating quirky town streets.
